UAE-Born Brands Target Global Growth Through Franchising

UAE-born brands are increasingly turning to franchising to expand internationally, strengthening the Emirates' position as a hub for homegrown franchise concepts.

UAE-Born Brands Target Global Growth Through Franchising

The UAE is becoming more than a destination for international franchise brands. A growing number of companies created in the Emirates are now looking beyond the local market, using franchising and international expansion to build global businesses.

Dubai-based Yolk Brands illustrates this new direction. Founded in 2023 by entrepreneur Stephen Flawith, the company was created to consolidate and develop fast-food concepts Pickl and BonBird. Its portfolio has since expanded to include coffee roastery Southpour.

Yolk Brands now operates across several markets in the Middle East and North Africa and has 50 restaurants. The group aims to reach 80 locations by the end of the year, with further development planned in markets including Kuwait and Iraq.

The company's international ambitions extend beyond the region. Hong Kong and Singapore are among its next target markets, followed by Europe. For a UAE-born restaurant group, this represents a significant transition from regional growth to international brand development.

Dubai's homegrown brands gain international ambitions

Yolk Brands is part of a wider trend involving UAE-founded consumer brands. The Emirates has produced a growing number of concepts with ambitions that extend well beyond the domestic market.

Fix Dessert Chocolatier is one of the most visible examples in the food sector. The Dubai-born brand gained international attention through the popularity of its Dubai chocolate bars, demonstrating how a local concept can rapidly generate global consumer interest.

The trend also extends to other consumer categories. Kayali has developed an international fragrance business, while Huda Beauty has become a globally recognised beauty brand. Fashion label The Giving Movement has likewise built an international customer base through e-commerce.

Why the UAE can support franchise growth

The UAE's business environment gives homegrown brands several advantages when preparing for international expansion. Its business-friendly regulations, infrastructure and access to capital can provide a strong base from which entrepreneurs can develop and test scalable concepts.

The country's international population and highly competitive consumer market can also expose brands to different customer expectations and operating environments before they enter additional countries.

For brands with a proven concept, franchising can become an important tool for international growth. Working with local franchise partners can allow a brand to enter new markets while benefiting from partners' knowledge of local consumers, regulations and business conditions.

Building the next generation of UAE franchises

The Emirates Franchise Association is supporting the internationalisation of UAE companies through franchise models and partnerships with overseas markets. Its participation in international franchise events is helping connect UAE businesses with potential international opportunities.

The growing number of UAE-born brands with international ambitions could ultimately strengthen the Emirates' position as a hub for franchise creation and development. The country's franchise story is therefore evolving: the UAE is no longer simply importing successful concepts from abroad, but increasingly developing brands capable of travelling in the opposite direction.

For UAE entrepreneurs and franchisors, the opportunity is clear: turning a successful local concept into a scalable international franchise can open a new stage of growth.
